End-to-end encryption

Only the people in a conversation can read what’s sent in it. No one else can, not even Rijjin.

Every message, photo and file you send in Rijjin is encrypted on your phone and decrypted only on the phones of the people in the conversation. Rijjin’s servers pass it on without being able to read it, and so do notifications: a message preview is decrypted on your phone.

To deliver messages, Rijjin knows who is in a conversation and when each message is sent. It doesn’t know what they say.

Find your messages

On the Home tab, tap the chat icon at the top. To message someone from their profile, tap Message.

Moving to a new phone

On a new phone of the same kind, your message history comes back on its own. Moving between iPhone and Android needs your recovery code. See Move your messages to a new phone.

If it doesn’t work

  • “Messages can't be opened on this version of the app. Update to read and send.” Update Rijjin from the App Store or Google Play.
  • “Couldn't decrypt this message” Your phone doesn’t have the key for that message. If you moved between iPhone and Android, restore your history with your recovery code.
